This Day That Age
China's State Council (Cabinet) has announced that civil servants throughout the nation would be paid their salaries not in money but in food, clothing, housing and other daily necessities as from next July 1, Peking Radio reported on June 20. The Council said the step had been taken to extend "the system of receiving real wages instead of money wages." Details of the new system of payment will not be available until the end of the month, the radio said.
