KARAIKAL: The month-long `Mangani' festival began with celestial wedding at Sri Kailasanathar temple also known as Karaikal Ammaiyar temple on Monday here in the Union Territory of Pondicherry and the main event of the festival was celebrated on Tuesday. Thousands of devotees from various parts of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry thronged the temple to witness the throwing of mangoes by devotees. M.M. Lakhera, Lt. Governor of Pondicherry, and a number of VIPs including Dr S. Sundaravadivelu, Collector of Karaikal, took part in the festival.
