Unfounded

The statement of RSS chief K.S. Sudarshan that Nehru is responsible for all the problems facing the country is contrary to facts. It was Nehru who shaped secular India and laid the foundation for a socialistic pattern of society. The ordinary masses in India will forever remember him for the Five Year plans that improved their living conditions, despite the infirmities attached to them. The problems of present day India are creations of people like Mr. Sudarshan whose communal plank diverted national attention from development.

Both the RSS' praise for Indira Gandhi and the BJP's views on Nehru are political gimmicks. Nehru's, Indira Gandhi's and indeed the Congress' basic ideological premise is that all Indians — Hindus, Muslims, Christians, and Sikhs — are equal. This is acceptable to neither the BJP nor the RSS.

R. Nagarajan,
