Letters to the Editor
That some politicians of Tamil Nadu are again trying to sabotage the aspirations of the youth, this time by calling for the boycott of English as part of their save-Tamil drive, is very unfortunate. At a time when Jing Rui is becoming Jerry in China, we have to reckon with politicians who want Cleopatra to become Kiliamma.
V.S. Rajangam,
* * * C. Rajagopalachari pleaded that India should not give up English because it was the language of modernity. Champions of Tamil will do well to read the views expressed in The Hindu editorial "All for English" (Feb. 14, 2003) on the subject.
K. Rangarajan,
* * * I feel very sorry I boycotted Hindi, listening to the politicians of yesteryear. I caution the younger generation not to be misguided by those who are now calling for the boycott of English. You will feel betrayed later in life. Do not lose the treasure you possess.
R. Vijayagopal,
