DHARWAD: A venue of the function turned out to be marriage mantap here on Sunday when the Social Reformers Day was observed. An announcement to this effect came after the Governor, T.N. Chaturvedi, felicitated Bhimrao Murgod, a Delhi-based artist hailing from the State, had been felicitated on his 60th birthday. Without any frills, a young man and woman walked on to the stage and exchanged garlands. The name of the groom was given as Prashant and the bride Karuna who happened to be the niece of Mr. Murgod. They took the blessings of all those present, including the veteran journalist, Patil Puttappa, on the dais. Such simple marriages are not new to the family of Murgods, who have been in the forefront of the social reform movement. The movement started in their native village in Belgaum district by their father, who was a schoolteacher and was continued in New Delhi, the organisers of the function said. Mr. Puttappa said the marriage was something reminiscent of the reforms made by Basaveshwara. Mr. Chaturvedi praised the endeavour of the family in opting for a simple marriage without any pomp and show.
