Rectify errors in voters' list: NC(I)

Staff Reporter

KOLLAM: K. Karunakaran Pillai, district president of the National Congrees(Indira), has said that the voters' list for the Kollam Corporation area published by the State Election Commission (SEC) is full of flaws and incomplete.

At a press conference here on Tuesday, he said that the list was so erroneous that anyone could go to court and get a stay against holding elections to the Corporation.

Mr. Pillai said that as per the delimitation, the number of divisions in the Corporation had increased from 50 to 52. The additional two divisions are Tangassery and Eravipuram. But the list showed that there was only 50 divisions. Mystery shrouds the list for the two new divisions. The boundaries of the two divisions also remained confused, he said.

Mr. Pillai alleged that the defect had emerged because the SEC had relied purely on the voters' list of 2000 for publishing the list for 2005. He said that the voters' list published in 2003 for the Lok Sabha elections was an updated one and that the SEC could have relied on that list. The problem is that complaints on the list would be heard only till June 30.

He called upon the Government to find a solution by August 15 for the construction of sea wall on the Eravipuram coast.
