Change in IA flight timings

VISAKHAPATNAM: Timings of the Alliance flights operating in the Chennai-Vizag-Raipur-Delhi sector have been changed with effect from Wednesday. According to a communication from the Area Marketing Manager of Indian Airlines here, the CD 7478 flight --- operated on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays --- will take off at Chennai at 11.15 a.m. and land in Vizag at 12.20 p.m. After a half-hour halt, it will be Raipur-bound reaching there at 1.40 p.m. Leaving Raipur at 2.10 p.m., the flight will touch Delhi at 3.50 p.m. - Special Correspondent

Woman, daughter die in suicide pact

Srikakulam: Pondara Srinivasa Rao, 35, of Gataravalasa village in Polaki mandal allegedly gave pesticide to his pregnant wife and a four-year-daughter-old and tried to commit suicide by taking the same. While his wife, Padmavathi, and daughter, Sirish, died on Monday, Srinivasa Rao is struggling for life at the Government Hospital here. - Special Correspondent

Tobacco stocks destroyed in fire

Boy hurt as bus hits electric pole

CUDDAPAH: M. Ramesh, 10, of Dandu Harijanawada, sustained injuries when a bus dashed against an electric pole at Alamkhanpalle on the outskirts of Cuddapah town on Tuesday, according to the police. - Staff Reporter

FERA seeks probe into godmen's affairs

HYDERABAD: The Federation of Atheist, Rationalist and Humanist Associations (FARA) has asked the Government to order probe into affairs of babas, their ashrams, mutts and Christian missionaries. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, the FARA coordinator, N. Innaiah, and the president of the Federation of Indian Rationalists Association, B. Premanand, wanted Government to also scrutinise the fund flow of these institutions. - Special Correspondent

Irrigation team returns

HYDERABAD: The official team which went on a 26-day foreign trip to mobilise funds for irrigation projects, returned here on Monday. Led by the Principal Secretary, Irrigation, C.V.S.K. Monsoon progresses

VISAKHAPATNAM: The south-west monsoon has further advanced into the Bay of Bengal. According to a special bulletin from the Cyclone Warning Centre here, the monsoon has covered the coastal areas of Andhra. The CWC has forecast rain in next two days. - Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Central Power Distribution Company Ltd. (APCPDCL) has set up a `Consumer Grievances Redressal Forum' for effective solving of the consumers complaints. Consumers of the CPDCL jurisdiction in the districts of Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Medak, Nalgonda, Mahaboobnagar, Kurnool and Anantapur, can approach the forum for grievances regarding metering, billing and fuse-off calls. Medical reps. stage rally

CUDDAPAH: Medical representatives took out a protest rally in Cuddapah on Tuesday demanding reduction in prices of life savings drugs.

The Andhra Pradesh Medical and Sales Representatives Union district president, C.K. Prabhu, and its vice-president, T. Krishna, sought revival of pharmaceutical companies in the public sector to bring the prices within people's reach. The union also wanted constitution of vigilance committees to check immoral trade practice by pharmaceutical firms.__Staff Reporter

One held on power pilferage charge

NELLORE: Vigilance officials of Transco led by the Inspector, P. Madhusudhana Rao, arrested one P. Dhanaiah of Konagalur village, Podalakuru mandal, on Tuesday for illegally using electricity for domestic purposes. On being produced in court, the accused person has been sent for judicial remand till July 5.

Plea on loans to SHGs

ANANTAPUR: The Chairperson of Zilla Parishad, G. Thippe Swamy, on Tuesday urged the DRDA to prepare an action plan to sanction loans to the women self help groups at 25 paise interest rate in the current year.

At the rate of Rs. one crore per mandal, the SHGs in the district would get Rs. 63 crores this year, he said at a meeting held here.__Staff Reporter

RWS official transferred

HYDERABAD: The Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has ordered transfer of the Assistant Engineer of Rural Water Supply, holding him responsible for the clash between Obulapuram and Kondapur villages of Anantapur district. He asked the District Collector, Y.V. Anuradha, to clarify to villagers that the engineer had falsely apprehended water scarcity in future while the position was comfortable. __Special Correspondent Reporter
