Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: The Home Ministry said on Tuesday that the Special Public Prosecutor has placed the opinion of the POTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act) review committee before the POTA special court and the matter was now before it for further appropriate action. In a status report on the Godhra railway police station case following the opinion of POTA review committee, the Ministry said in a official release that the Gujarat High Court in its April 13 order had dismissed two special civil applications and directed the review committee to forward its opinion to the public prosecutor for placing it before the special court. It said the public prosecutor would without delay file appropriate application (s) under Section 321 of the Criminal Procedure Code and place before the special court the review committee's opinion together with other relevant records for passing appropriate order.
Guidelines violated
The report comes two days after the Left parties took up the issue at the coordination meeting demanding action by the Centre on the ground that the Narendra Modi Government had decided not to move for the withdrawal of terrorism charges against the accused in the Godhra train attack case. The Left parties said this violated "with impunity the guidelines set by both the Gujarat High Court and the Supreme Court."
