TCS to employ 13,500 this year

"The salary for freshers joining as trainees is Rs. 2.5-Rs. 3.5 lakh annually"

MUMBAI: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) will recruit 13,500 people during 2005-06, including 2,000 from abroad, S Padmanabhan, Global Human Resource Development Head, said here on Tuesday.

Mr. Padmanabhan said the company would focus on Tier I educational institutions for campus recruitment and had recruited 58 from Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and 150 from secondary level management schools recently.

As on March 2005, TCS recruited 45,714 employees as compared to 43,681 on December 2004.

Over 3.5 per cent of the workforce was of non-Indian nationals.

The recruitment of non-Indian nationals would be done mainly from East Europe, Australia and the U.S, he said.

"The average salary for the freshers joining as trainees is Rs. 2.5 lakh to Rs. 3.5 lakh annually while trainees from management schools will get Rs. 5.50 lakh,'' he said.

Mr. Padmanabhan said 21 per cent of the workforce was women and the company would make conscious effort to increase their number. However, the company would not opt for gender-based recruitment to promote women employment, he said. — PTI
