DoT seeks Finance Ministry's views on spectrum charges
NEW DELHI:
Ahead of finalising the spectrum policy, the Department of Telecom has sought the Finance Ministry's views on Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's (TRAI) recommendation for reducing spectrum charges from 6 to 4 per cent and on the Tatas' proposal to impose a Rs. 1,500-crore entry fee on 3G spectrum.
Amidst a host of `complex' issues arising out of TRAI's spectrum recommendations and Tatas' proposal to impose entry fee, the DoT's wireless planning coordination (WPC) wing was racing against time to finalise its report by the end of July and the Government would formulate the policy thereafter.
The Finance Ministry's views were awaited, officials said.
The Telecom Minister, Dayanidhi Maran, has already said that the spectrum policy would be out in August. PTI
