TIRUPATI: The member of the National Commission on Scheduled Tribes (STs), B. Srinivasulu, has attributed backwardness of STs to their illiteracy and wanted special focus on their education for social and economic emancipation. He was holding a meeting with heads of the TTD, S.V. University and Sri Padmavathi Mahila University here on Tuesday to review implementation of the rule of reservation for STs in jobs, promotions and the filling of backlog vacancies. He advised the TTD top brass to examine the feasibility of allotting them shops in the shopping complexes at Tirumala and also to launch a special drive to wean them away from vices. He wanted eligible ST incumbents in the TTD be posted in key places in the core departments like reception, Vaikuntham queue complex, board cell, etc.. The Joint Collector, Rajendraprasad, the TTD's Joint EO, N. Muktheswara Rao, the Chief Vigilance and Security Officer, Balakrishna, and others were present.
