JANGAON (WARANGAL DT): The police took into custody 20 CPI(M) activists and used mild force to disperse others during a dharna near the municipal office on Tuesday. About 100 CPI(M) workers led by the town secretary, V. Srinivasa, demanded that the district administration divert funds earmarked for roads and drainage to drinking water schemes. Recently, tenders were called for drainage works at an estimated of Rs. 43 lakhs.
Leaders stage dharna
Left party leaders led a group of workers to the municipal office and staged a dharna. Meanwhile, the Municipal Commissioner, Syed Ali, tried to pacify them. He contended that the drinking water scheme was part of the Devadula project and hence it was not possible to divert money from World Bank funds. The unrelenting party workers continued their agitation creating obstacles to those coming in and out of the office including the staff, forcing the police to arrest the leaders.
