So far, 5,000 groups, with a membership of one lakh, have been formed. Physically challenged women, small business entrepreneurs and those who hail from poor families are among the members of the Stree Shakti SHGs. These women are trained in business skills, accounting, and marketing. These groups are sponsored by commercial banks and the Government pays a subsidy of Rs. 5,000 per group. The project is now taken to the taluk and district level through anganwadi workers. This year, Stree Shakti SHG members will be trained in managing the affairs of the group and in credit management. The training will be imparted at different levels such as training assistant directors and deputy directors of all the 27 districts. The next level of the training will be for anganwadi workers.
