Coalition partners caught in blame game: BJP

Staff Correspondent

`Congress performing role of Opposition in Hassan'

HASSAN: The Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, D.H. Shankaramurthy, said here on Tuesday that the coalition partners — the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) — are engaged in a blame game rather than concentrating on developmental works.

Mr. Shankaramurthy, who was here in connection with a district-level BJP workers' meeting, referred to the recent statements of the Minister for Information, B. Shivaram, holding the Hassan district in-charge Minister, H.D. Revanna, responsible for the hooch tragedies in the district.

"The Congress is successfully doing the job of an opposition party in the district."

Accusing the Janata Dal (S) of blackmailing its coalition partner on every count, he said development works in the State are the casualty in the process.

Naxalites

Criticising the Government for not taking action against naxalites, who, he said, are gaining ground in the Western Ghats, he said the Government has not taken any action against those who killed police personnel at Venkatammanahalli and murdered Sheshappa at Menasinahadya recently.

Reacting to the deployment of the Special Task Force (STF) in the Western Ghats, he said that though he is personally against the deployment of the STF to contain the activities of naxalites, there is no other choice except this.

Mr. Murthy said that while Ministers are promising tribal people that they will not be evicted, the Chief Secretary has given an undertaking to the court on evicting them.

This clearly shows the contradiction in the Government. His party has decided to take up issues related to farmers and people living in urban areas in the coming session of the Assembly, he added.

Third front

On the efforts of the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda to form a third front, he sought to know which will be the core party that will lead the third front.

Forming a third front with the help of regional parties is utopian, he added.

On the impact of the results of the Shimoga and Chamarajpet byelections, he said the BJP's defeat has not had any impact on the party.
