RAIPUR: The Congress Working Committee (CWC) member and former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister, Ajit Jogi, on Tuesday said his son, Amit, was not trying to avoid the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), probing into the murder of NCP leader Ram Avatar Jaggi. Mr Jogi described as ``baseless'' reports in a section of media, that his son was trying to avoid the CBI. " My son Amit Jogi is out of Delhi. As soon as he returns, he will cooperate with the investigations, whenever required'', he said, adding he had informed the officers concerned about this and they have agreed. The CBI, probing the murder case of former Chhattisgarh state NCP treasurer Ramavatar Jaggi, had reportedly served a notice on Mr Amit Jogi at his New Delhi residence, asking him to appear before the agency for further investigation. Earlier reports said Amit was supposed to appear before the CBI in New Delhi on June 20 in response to the notice served by the CBI under section 160 of the Criminal Procedure Code but he did not turn up.
Assembly elections
State NCP treasurer Ramavatar Jaggi was shot dead on June 4, 2003, six months before the state was to go to its maiden assembly elections in December. His murder had stirred a political controversy with the NCP terming it `first political' murder since formation of Chhattisgarh in November 2000. The State police later arrested five people from Uttar Pradesh, claiming that they had shot Mr Jaggi dead while they were trying to loot him when he was returning from NCP office late in the night. However soon after coming to power, the BJP government decided to hand over the investigations to the CBI after the deceased's family members alleged ``political interference '' in the case, seeking to protect the real culprits. Subsequently, the CBI arrested 14 people including a city superintendent of police and a sub inspector for arresting 'fake accused' to save those behind the murder. Besides, brother of a NSU (I) leader was also among the arrested. According to CBI sources, Mr Amit Jogi's name had cropped up during interrogation of some of the accused hence the investigating agency had decided to serve a notice on him.- UNI
