Biogas bottling in U.P.

The founder of Sri Govind Goshala, Prahlad Brahmachari has adopted the cryogenic super-cooling method to segregate methyne present in biogas and has set up his compressor equipped plant under a tin shade of 400 square feet in the goshala.

LUCKNOW: A goshala (cowshed) in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur claims to have developed the method of bottling biogas by adopting cryogenic super-cooling system, holding out potential for the energy sector.

The founder of Sri Govind Goshala, Prahlad Brahmachari has adopted the cryogenic super-cooling method to segregate methyne present in biogas and has set up his compressor equipped plant under a tin shade of 400 square feet in the goshala.

``The aim has been to make the goshala self-reliant. For this purpose, I worked for two years to gather information from the internet as well as visited IIT-New Delhi and four cylinders of four kg capacity each were filled in my bottling plant on June 10 which has aptly been named Kamdhenu, Brahmchari said.

``By adopting this method, we manage to segregate 65 per cent methyne, 34 per cent carbon oxide and one per cent hydrogen sulphide present in the biogas,'' he said adding the carbon dioxide obtained in this manner is in the form of dry ice which can be used for refrigeration purposes. Brahmchari said he has found that one kg methyne costing him just Rs. five (without including the cost of cow dung) is enough for an old Maruti van to run 25 kms and three-wheelers 45 kms.

He said he has already approached one Didvania Compressor Limited in New Delhi which has assured him of providing a compressor worth Rs. 1.50 lakhs that could be installed in small goshalas.
