ADILABAD: The Adilabad district administration will soon incorporate the services of students to conduct evaluation studies on works under the national food for work (NFFW) programme. The students with engineering background and National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers will also make suggestions on the type of works to be taken up in the villages concerned. The district administration being keen on ensuring employment to wage- seekers for the three-month period between mid February and mid May every year, the suggestions on the type of works gain importance. The students would also survey the works with an eye on quality assurance. There is provision in the NFFW programme to enlist the services of independent agencies like students to evaluate the programme. Adilabad district has been successful in implementation of the NFFW programme so far, as claimed by the officials.
No major lapses
"Besides, there being only a few reports of works being done by machinery, no major lapses had occurred. About a fortnight back, when I checked up with villagers of Manganpalli in the backward Vemanpalli mandal, I found that each household had rice stocks from the quantity supplied under the NFFW programme. Each family had about 1 quintal of rice in stock", revealed the Adilabad Collector R. Subba Rao. In view of the prevailing dry season, the Adilabad Collector, Subba Rao, explained his priorities thus: "I appeal to officials to immediately take up works on augmentation of drinking water supply wherever there is a dire need without waiting for proper sanction." "My first priority is to provide safe drinking water in the 40 problematic villages followed by efforts to increase the quantum of water supply from 10 litres per head to 20 litres in the 900 villages where the problem exists." Such water supply augmentation schemes would be funded through the regular Rural Water Supply (RWS) channel, the Collector said.
