IAF helicopters to airlift bus accident victims

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Following a request made by Communications and Information Technology Minister Dayanidhi Maran to Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee, two Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopters will reach Dharamshala at first light on Tuesday to ferry those injured in a bus accident to the Pathankot air force base. Two medium lift transport planes would then carry them to Vadodara, official sources said. Nineteen persons were killed and 20 injured when a chartered bus from Baroda fell into a ravine near Dharamshala on Monday. The bus was carrying BSNL employees and their families from Gujarat.

Mr. Maran has condoled the death of the BSNL employees and instructed its Chairman and Managing Director, A. K. Sinha, to personally supervise assistance and relief to the injured and the families of the deceased.

BSNL has opened two help-lines — 01892-222975 and 08192-229700 — at the Dharamshala civil hospital where the injured are being treated. BSNL said it was extending all possible medical help to the injured and is undertaking to transport the bodies by air to their native places. One person who is in a serious condition is being shifted to Chandigarh.

The BSNL management mourned the death of its employees and their family members.
