dated June 23, 1955: General elections

The Government of India have not taken any decision so far as to when the next general elections should be held, it was learnt in New Delhi on June 21. The Chief Election Commissioner, Mr. Sukumar Sen, has recommended that the elections be held in January 1957. The Government are likely to arrive at a final decision after considering the State Reorganisation Commission's report, expected by September 30.
