THRISSUR: A 32-year-old man was washed away in the gushing waters of Bharathapuzha river at Puthussery near Cheruthuruthy in heavy rain on Wednesday morning. The police gave the name of the person as Yusaff of Cholakkad. Yusaff was an INTUC activist. The mishap occurred when he was taking a bath. Efforts were on to locate his body. The fire-brigade personnel and Fisheries Department officials were engaged in the search operations. Meanwhile, Baby (42), a hotel employee who suffered serious burns in lightning at Ayyanthole last week died on Wednesday. The hotel was also partially damaged in the lightning. In another development, an abandoned tile factory reportedly collapsed at Pudukkad in the rain on Wednesday afternoon. The police said that the factory was being demolished and there were no casualties when it collapsed in the rain. In Mukundapuram taluk, 20 families were shifted to safer places after flooding in the area. In Kodungallur taluk, 50 persons belonging to 11 families were rehabilitated in a nearby school at Karavakkadavu area. The Chavakkad taluk authorities said that one hut was collapsed in the area in the rain.
