NEW DELHI: Sundar Singh Bhandari, one of the founders of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and later the BJP, who recently created a flutter by his criticism of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and the central BJP leadership over the post-Godhra riots, died here on Wednesday. He was 84. A bachelor, the BJP leader, who was ailing for some time, died in his sleep at his South Delhi residence due to a heart failure. Mr. Bhandari, who started as a "pracharak" in the RSS, was one of the founders of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and the BJP. He held several important positions in the party and government. A host of leaders, including President A P J Abdul Kalam, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee condoled his death. He will be cremated tomorrow. PTI
