Power cut

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended on Thursday in parts of Tolgate, Kondithope and Poonamallee between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for maintenance.

Blood donation

Fortyfour units of blood were collected at a blood donation camp organised by Lions Club of Madras Velachery at the residence of president of Ullagaram Town Panchayat at Ponnappan Street, Ullagaram on Tuesday.

Eye camp

About 140 persons were screened at an eye camp organised at New Perungulathur on Wednesday and 10 were referred for free eye related surgeries.

Inter-school bhajan competition

Bhaktha Swaraa Bhajan Mandali will be conducting an inter-school bhajan competition on July 23 at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore. The semi finals of the contest will be held on July 31. Free eye check-up

A free eye check-up and free contact lens trial will be offered for college students who produce their identity cards between June 27 and July 15. The offer is provided jointly by Savera Opticians, Nungambakkam, Vision Care (Adyar, Ashok Nagar, Chetpet, Saligramam) and Kapaleshwar Opticals (T.Nagar and Spencer Plaza).

Ex CPWD employee held

CHENNAI: The Central Crime Branch police arrested a former CPWD employee, who gave false promises of employment to 40 persons after collecting money from them.

According to police, Kovai Thangavelu (58), allegedly collected Rs. 25.85 lakhs from these persons after promising them jobs in the CPWD. The money was given to him about a year ago but Mr.Thangavelu did not keep his promise.

Following this the victims filed a complaint with the police. However, Thangavelu evaded police arrest for about a year. The police managed to trace him and he was arrested on Wednesday. Further investigation is on.
