This Day That Age
The Government of India would shortly set up a committee to examine the possibilities of deepening the Palk Strait between India and Ceylon, it was stated in New Delhi on June 22. This is to enable ocean liners and Indian coastal vessels to pass through the Gulf of Mannar and Palk Strait to the east coast ports instead of going round the island of Ceylon as at present and thus save a distance of about three hundred miles.
