"BJP will provide third alternative in Assam"

Special Correspondent

GUWAHATI: The Bharatiya Janata Party has been making efforts to provide a third alternative to the Congress and the Asom Gana Parishad in the 2006 Assembly elections in this State, general secretary Pramod Mahajan said on Thursday.

Speaking to presspersons here after touring seven districts, he claimed that the people were fed up with the Congress rule and they had already experienced the AGP administration. They were now looking for a third alternative.

"The BJP will try to provide the third alternative. We are in the take-off stage and the challenge is to reach the flying stage."

Focus on 3 areas

The BJP would focus on three broad areas — the anti-incumbency factor, threat to national security posed by unabated infiltration and a positive campaign for formulation of `vision 2020'.

Mr. Mahajan, who was appointed party in-charge for Assam, was here to take stock of the political scenario, review the status of frontal organisations and gear up the party's poll machinery.
