LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh government today claimed that polio was on the verge of eradication in the state and only seven afflictions had been detected this year compared to over 1200 three years ago. Family Welfare Minister Ahmed Hasan said the last round of struggle against polio was now being fought in U.P. and the government would ensure that not a single child was left during the pulse polio drive of June 26. As against 1242 polio cases detected in the state in 2002, only seven cases have come to light this year, the Minister said. -- PTI
