WARANGAL: The State Government has come up with a policy decision to develop infrastructure for the proposed information technology centres in tier II cities, including Warangal, according to the Additional Secretary, I &TC Department, P. Raghuveer. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Raghuveer said two sites were identified in and around Warangal at Rampur and Madikonda as potential locations for setting up IT centres. However, to begin with, entrepreneurs would be allotted land within the corporation limits and in due course infrastructure would be developed at alternative sites in an extent of 40 acres and more. Earlier, a meeting was held with NRIs, industrialists, academicians and district administration to explore opportunities to set up IT centres in the district. Representatives of a New Jersey-based IT company, IBSS Techno Park, who were also present, expressed their willingness to set up their centre with 150 employees and accommodate 1,000 employees in the days to come. Mr. Raghuveer said that Hyderabad stood second in the country in IT exports with an estimate of Rs. 8,270 crores per annum.
Plan to increase exports
The State Government proposes to enhance IT exports to the tune of Rs. 69,000 crores by 2009 and create three lakh more direct jobs in the sector. "For every direct job, there will be four indirect jobs in IT sector. Hence, it was decided to develop tier II cities where more centres can be set up," he explained. Listing out the advantages of Warangal city, he said it was located close to the State capital, connected by rail and road, availability of affordable human resources and broadband connectivity. "There are more engineering colleges around. We have centres of excellence such as National Institute of Technology. But we need is entrepreneurship. Instead of going after placements, the youth should come forward to set up their own firms," Mr. Raghuveer opined. The Joint Collector, Syed Omer Jaleel, has invited applications from enterprising businessmen for setting up IT centres.
