Incentives for meritorious students among minorities

SSC, Intermediate rankers to get awards at State level

HYDERABAD: The Minorities Welfare Minister, Mohd. Fareeduddin, on Thursday launched a scheme for giving incentive awards and scholarships for toppers and meritorious students among minority communities. The scheme will apply from the last public examinations.

He gave away a cheque for Rs. 12,000 to Ayesha Fatima of Toli Chowki in the city who topped the last Intermediate examination in the MPC stream.

The Minister promised an interest-free bank loan of Rs. 50,000 for pursuing her studies in BITS, Pilani, where she secured a seat.

Details of incentives

Giving details of the cash awards and scholarship amounts under the scheme, Mr. Fareeduddin told reporters that boys and girls respectively get Rs. 4,000 and Rs. 5,000 respectively for ranks one to five in VII class examination at the district-level. They will get Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 4,000 for ranks six to ten.

The toppers of SSC and Intermediate will get the awards at the State-level only. While the first to fifth rank holders in SSC will get Rs. 8,000 (boys) and Rs. 10,000 (girls), the ranks from six to ten will fetch Rs. 5,000 (boys) and Rs. 7,000 (girls). The first to fifth ranks in Intermediate carry awards of Rs. 10,000 (boys) and Rs. 12,000 (girls). The sixth to tenth ranks will get Rs. 7,000 and Rs. 9,000 (girls).

The awards will be given away at the university-level separately for arts, commerce and science in graduate and PG studies and medicine, engineering, agriculture and veterinary science in professional education. They range from Rs. 7,000 to Rs. 15,000.
