BJP protests Sonia's visit

Special Correspondent

JAIPUR: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Rajasthan on Thursday conveyed its displeasure over the visit of Congress president Sonia Gandhi to Tonk by holding a black flag demonstration outside Sanganer airport on her arrival here in the morning. The demonstrators were led by BJP MLAs from Jaipur City, Kalicharan Saraf and Veeru Singh Rathore and MLA from neighbouring Chomu, Ramlal Sharma.

The group shouted slogans against the latest policy decision of the United Progressive Alliance Government like petrol price hike and the status of the India-Pakistan dialogue but the major strain of their theme was "lashon ki rajniti''(politics of dead bodies) which, they alleged, the UPA chairperson was "playing''. Of course, the BJP crowd could not reach anywhere near the helicopter on which Ms.Gandhi took off to Tonk around 10 a.m. The protesters were taken into custody and were released later.

Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot termed the protest as a reflection of the "guilt feeling'' among the BJP men on the frequent police firings in the State.
