NEW DELHI: In a bid to clear the confusion surrounding a recent circular issued by it on appointment of teachers, the University Grants Commission (UGC) on Thursday issued a clarification stating that colleges can appoint permanent, temporary, ad hoc or re-employ teacher within the ceiling already conveyed to them by the Commission through the office of the Dean of Colleges. It, however, added that the aforesaid situation would be reviewed after the outcome of the Gnanam Committee Report. The UGC had lifted the freeze on filling up of posts in August 2004, by allowing Delhi colleges to appoint teachers on a permanent basis but within the limit specified by it. Subsequently, a letter was sent to colleges in June 2005 informing them that the colleges should not appoint any temporary or ad hoc teachers nor re-employ teachers, leading to confusion among colleges on the permissible limit.
