NEW DELHI: The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party president, Harsh Vardhan, on Thursday hit out at the Delhi Government stating that the promised relief on the power front still remains a distant dream even three years after privatisation of distribution of power in the Capital. In a statement, Dr. Vardhan said all that the people of Delhi had got from the private distribution companies was inflated power bills and fast running meters. Despite repeated assertions by the Delhi Government before the onset of every summer, there was hardly any improvement in the power situation and things continue to go from bad to worse, he added. The power and water situation have forced the people of Delhi to take to the streets in protest. The BJP leader said be it the posh areas or slum clusters and unauthorised colonies, everybody was faced with power cuts and load-shedding. He also lashed out at Power Minister Haroon Yusuf for making false claims on the power front and then announcing that a power hike was in the offing. He said the power companies were functioning without any control of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission and the complaints of the consumers were not being attended to. Most areas in South Delhi and East Delhi were facing three to eight hours of power cuts every day. If the situation does not improve soon, the party would be forced to launch an agitation, he warned.
