ANANTAPUR: The Congress-led Government both at the Centre and in the State had lost confidence of the people within 14 months after assuming power due to their failure to fulfil pre-poll promises, TDP leaders of the district alleged here on Thursday. Participating in a dharna staged in front of the MRO's office here in protest against the hike in the prices of petrol and diesel the party leaders stated that the UPA Government had hiked the fuel prices four times during the last 14 months, burdening the people heavily. The State Government, on the other hand, had forgotten all about development and instead taken up killing of TDP men as their agenda, they alleged. On an average about eight farmers were committing suicide in the State at present due to lack of remunerative price for their produce. The Congress Government had done nothing for farmers except seeking wide publicity, they criticised. They called upon the party activists to go door-to-door to explain the failures of the Congress Government before the municipal polls. They demanded that the Centre withdraw the hike in petrol and diesel prices. The district president, V. Hanumantharaya Chowdary, the general secretary, B.K. Parthasarathi, the State observer, R. Ramachandraiah, the Polit Bureau member, K. Srinivasulu, the former Minister, N. Kistappa, the party leaders, K.M. Saifullah, and others participated. Later, they burnt an effigy of the UPA Government in the Tower Clock circle and also formed a human chain.
