NABARD funds for buildings in govt. schools

TIRUCHI: : The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned Rs.90 lakhs for construction of integrated buildings for two government schools in Tiruchi district. Civil works will commence shortly, the Labour Welfare Minister, P. Annavi, has said.

Speaking after inaugurating high school classes at the upgraded middle school at Pillapalayam near Thathaiyengarpettai on Thursday, he said the Government higher secondary school in Valasiramani village and the Government high school in Pappapatti would get integrated complexes on an outlay of Rs. 45 lakhs each, sanctioned by the NABARD.

He said the Education Department had sent proposals for construction of additional classrooms for all high and higher secondary schools in the Thottiyam and Thathaingarpettai blocks.

Two classrooms would be constructed shortly for the upgraded school at Pillapalayam and additional buildings would be constructed next year, utilising the NABARD funds, he said.

The State Government had upgraded 30 schools in the district during the current academic year to cater to the educational needs of the economically weaker sections. He said 22 elementary schools had been upgraded into middle schools, five middle schools into high schools and three high schools into higher secondary schools.

The Chief Educational Officer, R. Baskara Sethupathy, was among those who spoke.

Earlier, the Minister flagged off an awareness rally organised by the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan.
