BANGALORE: "Hindustani music is not deep rooted in South Karnataka and the Carnatic music does not garner much of appreciation in north Karnataka. This gap needs to be bridged and the step taken by Pandit Rajshekar Mansur in this direction is commendable," said V.N. Subba Rao, President, Karnataka Media Academy. Mr. Subba Rao was speaking at a two-day workshop on Hindustani music here on Thursday. He said there is a need for good music critics. He hoped that the workshop will help the critics make qualitative analysis of music recitals. Purandara "I am pained to see substandard reviews in the Kannada press. If the Bengali and Marathi press can get some of the best reviews why not the Kannada press," asked Pandit Rajshekar Mansur. "A fine arts module should be incorporated in the M.S. Communication programme. We should act as the custodians of our culture," said Pandit Mansur. Usha Ganesh, Principal Secretary to the Government, Department of Kannada and Culture; and Muddumohan, Director of Kannada and Culture; spoke.
