Four dacoits nabbed after a hot chase

Staff Reporter

Early hour `action' lasts one hour; cash reward announced for home guard

HYDERABAD: the Hyderabad police caught four members of a dacoit gang who were fleeing by a car after relieving a lorry driver of Rs. 10,000 on the Kurnool-Hyderabad highway in the wee hours of Thursday, after a hot chase for an hour.

The driver, Srinivasulu, parked the lorry on the roadside at Mylardevpally in Rajendranagar on the city fringes late on Wednesday night and slept in the cabin. Around 2.15 a.m., four persons entered the cabin. While two of them held Srinivasulu's legs, two others held his hands, with one sitting on his chest.

When he woke up, one of the miscreants held a knife at his throat, warned him against raising an alarm and took away the cash. They then got into a car in which a person was readily waiting and sped away.

Police alerted

With the help of a motorcyclist, Mr. Srinivasulu informed a patrolling party of the Rajendranagar police, who in turn alerted the control rooms of Cyberabad and Hyderabad.

In no time all police patrolling parties were alerted. The miscreants managed to give the slip to the Langerhouse Inspector, Sudhakar, who was at the Langerhouse ring road. Rakshak vehicles of Humayunnagar and Asifnagar also began following the car.

In the trap

Finally, the car was surrounded with Rakshak vehicles in the front and Mr. Sudhakar's jeep on the rear side near the APCPDCL office.

In a desperate bid to escape, the car driver turned the vehicle only to hit a road divider. Two of miscreants jumped out and started running. The Langerhouse home guard, Srinivas, caught one of them after a chase for over half km.

Appreciating the good work done, the Hyderabad Police Commissioner, V. Dinesh Reddy, handed over Rs. 5,000 cash reward to Mr. Srinivas. The arrested persons were being questioned.
