Ryots' federation leader calls for unity while interacting with Government Ryots' federation leader calls for unity to redress grievances

  • Direct interaction sought with agricultural officers
  • Aid sought from banks, financial institutions
  • Rythu Mitra groups should stay away from political affiliation

HYDERABAD: The president of the Federation of Farmers Associations, Manda Balram Reddy, on Thursday urged the Government to take all steps to make sure that good quality seed was given to farmers.

At his first press conference after being elected the federation's president, he said the Government should ask agriculture officials to interact directly with farmers in the process of seed distribution.

If this was done, there would be no need for farmers to go to private suppliers and run the risk of getting cheated, he felt.

Mr. Balram Reddy urged the Government to see that banks and other related financial institutions came up with assistance of anywhere between Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 1.5 lakhs so that 15-member Rytu Mitra Groups could put it to good use.

He said that Rytu Mitra Groups should stay away from political affiliation and all the concerned should work together to strengthen the infrastructure right from the village-level.

On the irrigation projects, he said anyway the medium and major ones would take their own course, but considering the drought, the Government should take special care and expedite minor irrigation projects so that farmers could reap the benefits faster. The federation president stressed the need for farmers to be united in the process of interaction with the Governmentand see that their grievances were redressed. Farmers would not hesitate to take the agitational path if the Government failed to take the necessary action, he said.
