Heat wave claims another life

NEW DELHI: The intense heat wave sweeping across the Capital claimed one more life on Thursday.

According to the police, an unidentified man, aged around 55, suddenly collapsed near Badhai Banquet Hall on G.T. Road at Model Town around 9-30 a.m. He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The identity of the man is yet to be established.

Man killed

NEW DELHI: A 21-year-old man was allegedly sodomised and murdered by his three friends at Hazrat Nizamuddin in South Delhi on June 7. One of the accused has been arrested, while two others are still at large.

On June 8 morning, the police received a call claiming that the body of a man was found near a petrol pump at Hazrat Nizamuddin. The name "Moti Kumar" was tattooed in the hand of the body. The police learnt that the deceased was a resident of Gyaspur jhuggi cluster.

Investigations revealed that he used to live with his friends, Santosh, Rajesh and Suraj. Subsequently, the police tracked down Santosh. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to having sodomised murdered Moti along with Rajesh and Suraj. Report handed over

NEW DELHI: A copy of the preliminary post-mortem report on the body of the 24-year-old Israeli woman who was found dead under highly mysterious circumstances in a Westend Greens farmhouse at Vasant Kunj in South-West Delhi on Tuesday was handed over to Israel Embassy officials on Thursday.

It is learnt that the officials met the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West Delhi), Deependra Pathak, to enquire about the developments in the case. They also requested for a copy of the post-mortem report.

Artistes protest

NEW DELHI: Continuing their protest against denial of permission by the Delhi police to stage the play "Mr. Jinnah", theatre personalities held a peaceful candle light protest meeting outside the police headquarters here at ITO on Thursday.

Members of Asmita Art Group, which has produced the play, also staged a scenes from the play outside the police headquarters as a mark of protest.

Films on music legends

NEW DELHI: Sangeet Natak Akademi will hold a public screening of two documentary films on Ustad Allauddin Khan and Ustad Bade Gulam Ali Khan from its archives for the public at Rabindra Bhavan here this Friday. The films were produced by the Akademi in 1965.

The films, directed by the late Hari Das Gupta, are of half-hour duration each.

Call to plant trees

NEW DELHI: On the 25th death anniversary of Sanjay Gandhi on Thursday, the president of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC), Ram Babu Sharma, urged the people to plant more trees in order to maintain the ecological balance.

Launching a tree plantation drive, Mr. Sharma said every citizen must plant at least one sapling and nurture it to make Delhi a greener and cleaner city.

Two held

NEW DELHI: Two persons who allegedly extorted money from a tutor by posing as CBI officers have been arrested by the South-West Delhi police.

The duo were identified as Rajesh Kumar and Sanjiv.
