NEW DELHI: Eminent economist B. B. Bhattacharya has been appointed the new Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University here. Serving as Director of the Institute of Economic Growth at present, Prof. Bhattacharya will take over the reins at JNU from Prof. G.K. Chadha, who retired from the post on June 6.The appointment has been made by the President, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, in his capacity as the Visitor of the University. The terms and conditions of Prof. Bhattacharya's services as Vice-Chancellor will be those set forth in the Act, Statutes and Ordinances of the University. Born on March 9, 1945, Prof. Bhattacharya did his post-graduation in economics from the University of Allahabad in 1966 and later did his Ph.D. in 1971 from the Delhi School of Economics. Prof. Bhattacharya has written many articles and books dealing with macro-economics, money and finance, public finance, international economics, development economics, etc.
