Inaugurates Youth Congress leadership camp at Adoor

PEP TALK: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy inaugurating a State leadership camp of the Youth Congress in Adoor on Friday.

PATHANAMTHITTA: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has welcomed the statement of CPI(M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan that his party is not against the proposed Smart City project.

Inaugurating a State leadership camp of the Youth Congress at Mar Thoma Youth Centre in Adoor on Friday, Mr. Chandy said that now with Mr. Pinarayi himself realising the need for projects such as Smart City, he [Mr. Chandy] would be able to convince the people of the Government's good intentions. ``Had the CPI(M) leader visited Dubai Internet City, he would have appreciated my endeavour in bringing the project to Kerala.''

The Chief Minister said the controversy over the Smart City project was baseless. He claimed that the Government would be able to convince Opposition leaders who were sceptical of the project of its prospects if they came forward with an open heart.

In spite of the attractive facilities offered by the Governments of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, the promoters of Smart City preferred Kerala because of the immense potential here on the Information Technology front. ``It is sad that we the natives are yet to realise our potential when many foreign companies have noticed it,'' Mr Chandy said.

He claimed that the Smart City project would provide employment opportunities to a large number of IT professional, including those working abroad owing to lack of opportunities here.

He asserted that the United Democratic Front Government was committed to launching and completing development projects suited to the State in a time-bound manner. It is high time the political leadership here adopted a mindset with a positive vision on development in the backdrop of the fast changing global scenario.
