APSHC to rope in women SHGs

Drive to recover loan arrears from beneficiaries of housing programme

ONGOLE: Andhra Pradesh State Housing Corporation (APSHC) Managing Director, Sunil Sharma, said that they are planning to utilise the services of women self-help groups (SHGs) to recover loans from beneficiaries of rural and urban housing programme.

Speaking to newspersons here on Friday, he said that the arrears amounted to Rs. 1,700 crore in the State in the last 20 years.

Mr. Sunil Sharma said that they are planning to construct two lakh houses for low-income groups in urban areas under the Rajiv Gruhakalpa programme this year.

40,000 houses sanctioned

The corporation has sanctioned 40,000 houses for tsunami-hit fishermen in nine coastal districts. It would construct five lakh houses for urban and rural poor. The corporation has sanctioned 1,000 houses in each of the ITDA areas in the State.
