Promises an investment-friendly climate

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said in Mumbai on Saturday that about 2,400 industrial units would be set up in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) being set up in the State.

Addressing the delegates of FICCI on `Investment Opportunities in

Haryana' on the first day of his two-day visit to Mumbai, he said his regime would introduce Industrial Promotion Act to make it mandatory for various departments and authorities to provide clearances within a fixed time frame.

According to a press note issued here on Saturday, Mr.Hooda invited the captains of trade and industry in Mumbai to set up their ventures in Haryana as it had investment-friendly climate.

The SEZ was being set up at Garhi Harsaru in Gurgaon district over an area of 3,000 acres at an estimated cost of Rs.2,050 crores within the scope of the new Exim Policy on industrial and allied infrastructure.

It would provide direct employment to more than 60,000 people. Tax in the state would be at par with Delhi, he added.

With the construction of 135 km.-long western periphery expressway linking Kundli with Manesar and Palwal, bisecting National Highways No.1, 8 and 10, opportunities for the development of new urban and industrial townships would open.

Land for this prestigious project had already been acquired and the State Government was in the process of selecting a suitable partner to develop this expressway on BOT basis. This would be supplemented by extending Metro up to Gurgaon to improve connectivity, he added.

The main aim of his visit was to market Haryana as an investor- friendly state and an ideal destination for investment, he reiterated. It was proposed to develop Panchkula and surrounding areas with emphasis on IT and related industries. A Petro-Chemical hub was also being set up at Panipat to utilise the capital feedstock from IOC refinery for down-stream projects.
