MEDAL OF HONOUR: The Director of CLRI, Chennai T.Ramasami presenting a gold medal to a girl student in Kongu Engineering College, Perundurai on Saturday.
ERODE: The world needs a large number of good engineers and also experts who can score through innovations, said the Director of Central Leather Research Institute, Chennai, T. Ramasami. He was delivering the graduation address at Kongu Engineering College on Saturday. The Director also said that the modern world depended on youth and by 2010 only engineers and professionals from India and China would be required. He said "on account of English and communicative power on the one hand and your ability to master IT tools on the other, Indian engineers will be preferred globally. India is respected as an IT super power".
Demand-supply gap
He said there were days when studying in an engineering college was difficult as there were limited educational institutions of the kind.in the country. The demand-supply gap in engineering education had not been bridged as a result. Now there had been a hundred-fold increase in engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu. Every year minimum four lakh engineering graduates came out of colleges of which 25 per cent was from Tamil Nadu. The Secretary of the Kongu Vellalar Institute of Technology Trust, C. Kumarasamy presided. The College Principal A.M. Natarajan said many students in various departments had obtained gold medals. The Kongu Engineering College had the maximum number of gold medallists this year among 22 colleges under Bharathiar University.
