NEW DELHI: With an estimated 80 per cent of patient-doctor disputes arising from a lack of communication, the Delhi Medical Association (DMA) has launched a new initiative designed to improve communication between the two parties and address patient concerns. The DMA has set up a disciplinary committee under the stewardship of its president, Dr. K. K. Aggarwal. The other members of committee are Girish Tyagi, Prem Aggarwal and Harish Grover. In addition, two specialists, whose specialisation will depend on the nature of the case under review, will be invited to assess particular complaints. Launched on Friday, the committee is designed not only to improve communications but patient care by providing a third-party the power to investigate and resolve complaints in an amicable manner. Individual patients and/or organisations working on behalf of patients are encouraged to approach the committee. Highlighting the phenomenon of doctors facing harassment by members of the public, the committee will also accept complaints from the medical community.
