Polio vaccination today

NEW DELHI: The next phase of the Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme, under which all children below five years would be administered polio drops, will be organised in the Capital on Sunday.

The Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, formally launched the programme on Saturday by administering polio drops to children at her residence here.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Dikshit said the results of the pulse polio campaign was satisfactory and expressed the hope that the country will become polio-free soon.

She urged all Delhiites, particularly those parents who have children below five years, to get the required polio drops administered to them at the nearest polio kendra.

Various officials of World Health Organisation, United Nation Children's Fund and Rotary International were also present on the occasion.

Held for planning dacoity

NEW DELHI: Three persons have been arrested by the East Delhi police for allegedly planning to commit a robbery in the Patparganj industrial area.

The police had laid a trap in the forests near the industrial area on Friday. Five persons appeared on the scene. The police arrest three of them while two managed to escape under the cover of darkness. Those arrested have been identified as Ajay Kumar, Sanjay Kumar and Sunil. The police have recovered fire weapons, knives and iron rod from them.

The gang had been carrying out reconnaissance of closed godowns and factories in the industrial area for committing robbery, the police said.

According to the police, Suresh, one of the persons to have escaped, was the leader of the gang. Further investigations are on.
