NEW DELHI: Three persons allegedly involved in a robbery reported at Paschim Vihar in West Delhi on June 17 have been arrested by the West Delhi and Noida police. The police said one Shiv Kumar Verma of Vikaspuri was robbed of Rs. 15 lakhs in cash by three armed men on the stairs of Indraprastha Cooperative Bank in Paschim Vihar on June 17. Mr. Verma, a trader in chemicals, had withdrawn the amount from the Syndicate Bank in Nangloi and was going to deposit it in the Cooperative Bank when the incident occurred. A case was registered in this connection and investigations taken up. Acting on secret information on Friday, Sub-Inspector Ranbir Singh began following a Scorpio jeep in which one of the suspects was travelling. The chase began at Tilak Nagar and ended up in Paschim Vihar when the police vehicles managed to overtake the suspect's vehicle. In a bid to escape, he fired twice at the police party. But the policemen escaped unhurt and overpowered him. The accused, identified as Mukesh (35), was found to be in possession of a country-made revolver with four live and two spent cartridges. Following interrogation, Mukesh revealed that he along with three others -- Sanjay alias Bhura, Sandeep and Surjeet -- had robbed Mr. Verma. At their instance, the police conducted a raid at a farmhouse in Greater Noida where Sanjay and Sandeep were holed up. They tried to escape on a tractor which they had robbed from a man in Noida. But, the police team and area residents forced the duo to surrender. Around the same time, the Noida police also arrived there in connection with the tractor robbery case. They took the two in their custody. The Delhi police will bring the duo here for further interrogation later. The police said the accused had also killed a security guard, Ganesh, at Janakpuri in West Delhi on December 26, last year. Ganesh had tried to stop them when they were fleeing after robbing the owner of an electronics showroom. On January 3, the gang had also robbed one Rishi Dutt Sharma of Rs. 3 lakhs in Nangloi.
