VISAKHAPATNAM: The chairman of the State-level Joint Action Committee for Protection of Panchayat Raj and president of State Panchayat Sarpanches' Association, Y. Babu Rajendra Prasad, on Sunday appealed to the district Collector, Praveen Prakash, to revoke the suspension of panchayat secretaries, failing which they would be forced to resort to a State-wide agitation. Talking to mediapersons here, he said it was unfortunate that such a situation arose in Visakhapatnam due to the adamant attitude of the Collector. "A district Collector should be able to take care of the entire administrative set up. If he cannot, it only means he has failed in his job. There is no place for enhancing one's personal image and indulging in heroics," he remarked. people's representatives in north Andhra, said in a democracy, the people's representatives took decisions and it was the duty of the bureaucracy to implement them. He alleged that similar problems cropped up when Mr. Prakash was Municipal Commissioner in Guntur and Vijayawad. Mr. Prasad said that a panchayat raj convention would be held in the city on Tuesday in which MPTC and ZPTC members and organisations, which were part of the JAC, would participate. Expressing solidarity with the agitating panchayat secretaries of Visakhapatnam district, he said the sadassu would include their issues in the list of the demands of the JAC.
