TUTICORIN: : The Sethusamudram Corporation Limited and the Suez Canal Authority have prepared the `draft' of a Memorandum of Understanding for sharing of knowledge of construction, operation and maintenance of the Sethusamudram channel. Official sources said the draft was prepared after N. K. Raghupathy, Chairman and Managing Director, Sethusamudram Corporation Limited and A. K. Bhalla, Joint Secretary, Ports, held discussions with Admiral Ahmed Aly Fadel, Chairman, Suez Canal Authority, in Cairo a few days ago. The Indian delegation made a presentation on the project and discussed traffic projections, technical parameters, tariff fixation and other areas of collaboration. Subsequently, the draft was finalised and Mr. Raghupathy and Mahmoud M Abdel Wahab, Board Member and Director, Management Department, Suez Canal Authority, initialled it. The sources said technical collaboration in dredging and training pilots and personnel in handling vessel traffic management systems would be the priorities. The SCA officials said a team would visit India at the earliest to sign the agreement. The Indian team visited parts of the Suez Canal, the control stations at Ismailia and Port Tawfibz and Suez city to study traffic control and collection of transit fees.
