MYSORE: A heritage museum tracing the growth and development of Mysore in the last two centuries through historic documents, photographs, paintings, miniature-scale models and manuscripts will come up at Sri Rangacharlu Memorial Town Hall shortly. The Commissioner of Mysore City Corporation, A.B. Ibrahim, told presspersons on Monday that the proposed museum will showcase the cultural, economic, political and social development of Mysore since 1800 A.D. The museum will be located in the front portion of the Town Hall on 1,000 square feet area. The portion earmarked for the museum will be renovated under the guidance of well-known heritage architect Ravi Gundu Rao and urban designer H.D. Nagesh. "As one enters the museum, a display panel introduces Mysore to the visitors through a map depicting the geographical and demographical data of the area", Mr Ibrahim said. The paintings of Mysore's erstwhile Maharajas will be placed chronologically along with Dewans and eminent personalities. A topographical model of Mysore region showing the City, Srirangapatna and KRS Dam will also be showcased. Next in the sequence will be the development of fort and Palace during 1800 in relation to topographical features such as lakes and Chamundi Hill. A constructed map of Mysore in 1803 is expected to transport the visitors to the early nineteenth century. The exhibits will also include photographs of the construction of KRS reservoir followed by documents portraying the manner in which Cauvery water was brought to the city. The tragic history of Mysore also finds place in the heritage museum. "The plague of 1897, which killed nearly half the population of Mysore, and the major fire that destroyed the palace and its surroundings will also be depicted through documents, paintings and information in text", Mr Ibrahim said. Construction of the new palace, taken up in 1897, emergence of railways, formation of City Improvement Trust Board and construction of Asia's first Hydro-electric power generation station at Shimsha will also be showcased. "An audio-visual presentation on the City's heritage will also be part of the museum", Mr. Ibrahim said. The City Corporation authorities convened a meeting of eminent personalities of Mysore at the venue of the proposed museum on Monday to seek their suggestions. The convenor of Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage, Krishna Vattam; noted photographer T.S. Satyan, Editor of Star of Mysore, K.B. Ganapathy, and Mr. Gundu Rao participated in the meeting.
