DAVANGERE: In what can be described as a sudden political development, Basavaraj, President of the Davangere City Municipality and a close aide of Shamanur Shivashankarappa, MLA, resigned from his post on Monday evening. Mr. Basavaraj told presspersons that he tendered his resignation according to the instructions of Mr. Shivashankarappa. There is an arrangement under which an incumbent holds the post for six months. Mr. Basavaraj had completed 10 months in office. It is reliably learnt that about 27 Congress councillors went to Bangalore on Sunday and pressured Mr. Shivashankarappa to replace Mr. Basavaraj with a candidate he thinks suitable for the post.
