Delhi to host two-day traders' meeting in July

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A two-day National Conference of Trade Leaders convened by the Confederation of All-India Traders (CAIT) will begin in the Capital on July 21. To be attended by trade leaders from across the country, the conference will discuss various core issues relating to Value Added Tax (VAT) and service tax.

In a statement, the CAIT secretary general, Praveen Khandelwal, said the conference will discuss the problems arising out of implementation of VAT, levy of service tax, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in retail trade, merger of banks and various policies of the Union and State governments concerning trade.

The Union Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, the Chairman, Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers, Aseem Das Gupta, the Union Commerce Minister, Kamal Nath, and leaders of major political parties have been invited to address the conference.

In the wake of economic liberalisation and globalisation and when domestic trade was passing through difficult times, the conference will take policy decisions and chalk out a future course of action, said Mr. Khandelwal.
