Maran inaugurates baggage scanning machine at airport
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI:
Communication and Information Technology Minister Dayanidhi Maran is a familiar person to authorities at the Chennai airport. And the IT savvy Minister is increasingly making his presence felt to the Civil Aviation Ministry by frequently visiting the airport both in his official and personal capacity.
Mr. Maran was irked by the serpentine queues before the terminal and the gateway without adequate scanning machines. He urged the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to act swiftly to set right this problem.
Under instruction from Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, the top brass of the AAI and Air India swung into action. One of Air India's two baggage scanning machines, which was in "unserviceable condition," was replaced with a new one.
This machine was formally commissioned by Mr. Maran before he boarded a Lufthansa flight to Frankfurt en route to Geneva on Saturday at midnight.
